Storytime!
I LOVE our library. Let's just get that out of the way. We have an amazing library. Logan LOVES the library as well. (Lie-be-bee he calls it.) Spurred on by the events calendar I found on a local Mom's Group web site, I went out on the Ocean Count Library site and checked their schedule of activities. MOST of their offerings are for 2 and up. Then there's CuddleTime for all those tots 9-24 months. The only downside of it -- it only meets once a month and now they're off until February. Bummer.Anyway, Today was the first day we went and it was wonderful. Mrs. Pppppp (she is called Mrs Priscilla but today they had sheep name tags so she went by many P's) started out by saying - "If they want to run, let them run. If they want to dance, let them dance. If they want to sit, let them sit. I only ask that you take them out if they aren't happy and getting hysterical." So Logan ran.
The first half of the session was for songs. We sang a lot. Logan did some of that, but he was much more interested in exploring the meeting room - which is actually the emptied out sanctuary of an old church (the one we go to know to be exact. It was our church's former building which the county bought for the library when our new building many, many moons ago.) Of course then they took out these noise thingy-ma-jiggers which he loved. we connected all these tubes to make a circle that we were all supposed to sit around. And most of us did - except Logan. Logan decided it was more fun to stand in the circle - as in *IN* the center of the circle everyone else made. From there he sang, danced and told stories of his own. ;)
Finally the books came out - Logan was disturbed when we first got there because we weren't reading right away. He kept going over to the display of books Mrs. Pppppp had brought in and picking out one he wanted to read. ha! Anyway, the book is finally out and Logan is standing himself RIGHT in front of Mrs. Ppppp.
She smiles at him and says very sweetly "Hey, Logan honey, do you want to go have a seat so everyone else can see the book to? Can you sit?"
Logan says "Sit? Read?"
She says "Yes, let's sit down and read."
So Logan sat on her lap. I'm guessing we're moving past stranger anxiety. Yes, here I am, children on laps of parents all around me, sitting by myself listening to a book about animals and the sounds they make while my child is snuggled up on the Liberian's lap helping her tell the story. Yes, helping her. He told her the name every animal on every page and the sounds they made.
Then each child got to pick out a book of their own and sit with their 'big person' to read a little. Logan got himself a book about a wagon, but he really wanted to play with the stuffed white cat on the stage. He didn't want to leave when the hour was up. We finally did leave because the bubbles came out and Logan didn't think anyone but him or Mrs. Pppp should have possession of the bubble wand.
On our way out to the car we took a side trip (short short walk) across the courtyard to the holiday display in front of the County Clerks office. Logan had to see the wooden train they had out and wave to the Santa who was driving it. I thought we'd never get home for lunch and a nap. ;) That said, I just wish this program was more than once a month!
