Still Spelling and more on phonics.
Logan is very much into spelling his own name now. IF you ask him, for example, what his name is he responds with "Logan Potts. L-O-G-A-N." This past week we found another word he can spell. He decided to type Dad an email knowing that although we couldn't talk to Daddy or see him, we could send him smiley faces over the computer. Logan's emails are very simple, of course. Lots of single letters in a row followed by other letters in a row, completed with a few select smiley's from the add-on package we downloaded once. He's known the first letters of several of his favorite words for a while now. He'll tell you, for example - M is Mommy. G is Grandma. T is Tommy. P is Papa. D is Daddy. Knowing that, I thought absolutely nothing was unique about him holding down the "D" key as he said "Daddy!"Then he followed it up with "D is for Daddy. Then A. [hits several A's.] Then another D. [many other D's] Then another D. Then Y. Daddy"
Since then we've also discovered he can spell Papa. So, added to his old-standby 'zoo,' my 25.5 month old can spell four words on his own. . .four and half is you count the fact that he can sometimes spell Zoom on command too.
And then the phonics
We've talked before about the phonics games Logan likes to play. The latest being Jump Start Phonics. For a while now he can play those games and select the right letter to go with the sound the game is asking him to match. Recently he started turning that around to sound out words. He's not done it yet with a written word, but its starting to seem as if that is just a matter of time.
Here's what he will do.
Grown-up says "Logan, do you know what letter the word 'block' starts with?"
Logan thinks a moment then says "Bah, bah, bah....B! Block start with letter B."
Grown-up, thinking he got lucky, says "Ok, what does apple start with?"
Logan says "Aaaahh, aaah, A. Apple start with A."
