All About the Boy!

Generosity

Tonight while giving Logan his bath I called out a simple question to Daddy who sat with Miss Megan in the other room.

"What time is it?" I asked, wanting to be sure we stuck to the schedule that had Logan drying off no later than 7:30. Daddy called back that it was 7:13.

"What 7:13 mean?" asked Logan.

"It means its not quite time to get out of the tub yet if you don't want to," I told him.

He pondered the concept for a moment then looked at me with a puzzled look on his face. "Mommy, why you no look at your clock?"

I assumed by clock he meant watch and I told him it was because I didn't have a watch. He took another moment to process all that and then told me very matter a factly, almost annoyed that I had hadn't thought of it myself, "Then you go get you clock now. I wait here."

"Well Logan, I don't have a watch at all. The one I had is broken." I explained, not even getting into the issue that even if I *had* a watch I wasn't about to leave him in the tub alone to get it.

He mulled it over for another moment and the little light bulb went off on his head. "I know!" he said excitedly. "I go downstairs by myself and take big red car out to road. I go to Target and buy you watch with my piggy money!" He smiled at me, very proud of his idea and then he said "I can't drive big red car myself. You help me drive to Target?"

I told him that was a very nice idea. Very generous of him in fact, but right now wasn't a good time to go to Target to go watch shopping. He's decided that this is an acceptable answer for now but at some point, apparently, we're cracking open the pig for a Timex...at least in Logan's mind.

Toot Toot Chugga Chugga

When Daddy went to Australia Logan decided Dad was now the newest member of the Wiggles - the green one, named appropriately enough, Daddy Wiggle. Well now Daddy Wiggle has fully cemented his place in the toddler/pre-school set's musical obsession. Today Daddy replaced his old, beat up, "will-it-survive-another-week", forest green Honda Civic for a 2004 Honda Accord in what we like to call "Wine" colored. Yes, its red, not fire engine red, but a nice Cabernet type shade.

Those that know the Wiggles know the crew of four singing Aussies drive the Big Red Car. Not only that, they have a song for it "Toot Toot, Chugga, Chugga, Big Red Car. We travel near and we travel far. Toot, Toot Chugga, Chugga, Big Red Car. . . ." (To hear a clip, check out this link. Click on the "Toot Toot. . ." song title that appears first on the page.

Granted I planted the seed in Logan's head when I found him perched on Papa's lap playing a computer game. "Logan, guess what Daddy got! The Wiggles' Big Red Car!" I said. He was so excited. He hopped down and emerged from his play asking Daddy to show him this wonderful investment. Since then Logan's been talking about Daddy's Wiggle car and singing the little song.

Poor Daddy.

I've Got New Shoes

Yesterday afternoon we took a field trip with Grandma to StrideRite. Grandma was determined to buy Logan something other than sneakers to wear with all his non-demin or sweat pants. First we tried on a pair of snazzy brown leather hiking-ish style boots. They looked adorable on but Logan walked like Frankenstein in them. Sure, maybe he could have figured it out over time but before we stuck him in those we selected a pair of dark brown leather shoes to try out. He instructed the saleswoman to check and see where both his big toes were. He checked himself out in a mirror and then ran off to play with the toys and 1 year old Sarah (also getting new shoes yesterday). He still doesn't walk as smoothly as he does in his reliable sneakers but at least the big square headed monster isn't being impersonated! When it was time to take those shoes off and pay for them we had a struggle. Logan did not want to remove them.

Well this morning I asked him if he showed his shoes to Dad. He ran down to find Daddy, handed his father a shoe and held onto one for himself. "See my new cool shoes Daddy?" he asked. Then he sat down and insisted we put them on - he still clad in his PJs. "Oh, they so nice. I like my new shoes," he said and he ran off to play - determined to wear those things all day. . .with his PJs, with his shorts. . .whatever.

For the record, its still early but so far Mommy has won the battle of the wills. The shoes are sitting on his baseball table waiting for their "special" debut at Logan's first day of Sunday School tomorrow. His feet are merely clad in his bright orange bedtime socks for now.

Imagination

As I sit here typing, Logan is about three feet from me in the center of our porch surrounded by this toys. He's holding conversations on their behalf, which is so much fun to ease drop on.

Just moments ago, for example, the rock loader from his GeoTrax set was invited by the Farmer to come visit in the barn. "Hey, loader, want to come in here?" Logan would say. Then he'd alter his voice slightly in pitch and respond "No thanks, Farmer says the loader. I ok out here."

We're on careful potty watch this morning, for what its worth. He's decided to spend at least some time today in his "Tommy" underwear. We've convinced him that he needs nothing else on for now. At least if he doesn't get to the bathroom in time we only have a pair of underwear to wash.

A good big brother

Recently we told Logan that when we're in the car with the baby, he can help entertain her since he'll be the big kid in the back seat with her. He thought this over a bit but didn't respond. You can sing to her, we told him, knowing how much he likes to sing everything and anything. He's got big plans of the songs he's going to perform for his kid sister already. He thought this one over a bit too.

"I sing ABC song to Megan because she need to learn it," he said finally.

Playing nice

We talk to Logan a lot about sharing and taking turns. Its a concept he gets in theory if not always puts to use in practice. And for his age, that's good progress.

The other day he sat on the floor with Grandma playing trains. Grandma wanted her train to go one way and Logan had another direction in mind. The topic of "playing nice" came up and Logan, very seriously eyed his Grandmother and then said:

"Grandma. I don't feel like cooperating today."
