Why-Yes
Logan rarely naps any more. When he does, his naps are short and he often wakes up cranky making us wish he'd never napped. Today, however, he's got a bit of a head cold and so when he fell asleep during a car ride I moved him from carseat to bed without even trying to wake him up. He ended up sleeping for just over 3 hours.
When I went in to get him (responding to his happily little calls of "Moooommmmmmyyyy! I'm awake now!") I asked if he was feeling any better after sleeping.
"Yup" he said.
"Boy you took a real long nap!" I said.
And he responded, "Why yes, I sure did!"
"I guess you needed it then," I rationalized, ignoring the worry that he wouldn't sleep well tonight (so far he is by the way.)
"Yup, I guess I did."
the aforementioned state game
Sometimes Logan plays his "states" game by the rules they provide. . .and other times he makes up his own. Guess which way this is. ;)
Great States!
In the mail Tuesday came a new game for Logan -
Great States Junior. It was supposed to be an Easter gift but when Logan woke up extra cranky yesterday we broke out the game a few days early.
And we've been playing it almost non-stop since.
Logan knew a handful of states before we got the game and in the last two days he's just added more to his store of knowledge. His favorite state has gone from his own homestate to Hawaii - and he's not even seen the beaches there yet. ;) He's also a big fan of the "potato state", which is what he says everytime the blue silouette of Idaho appears on his card. He'll correct you also. Tell him that the card in his hand is "Alabama" and he'll correctly tell you "No, this is Alabama. That's not it!" And of course its Arkansas in his hand. Guess the game works.
Still reading. . .
Many moons ago when Logan and I were playing with his Magic Colors finger paints I wrote the word "BOOK" on a page. It remained in the pad of Magic Color paper which got stashed away in the bottom of the art box - forgotten about. We pulled the pad from the box yesterday and pulled off the painted on pages. Logan held out the page with the fingerpainted writing and said "Hmm, book. It says book."
Guess we found another word he can read.
Transit Love Affair
Logan got to ride a 'real' train today. Real in the sense that it currently does more than short pleasure rides around a circular track. Logan and Daddy took a short ride on a NJ Transit train. They left Pt. Pleasant, got off at Spring Lake and then headed back.
Logan LOVED it. He sat happily next to the window and watched the world buzz by him. He even learned to intone the stops in the same voice the conductor called them out over the speaker. In fact the first thing he said when he got home was "Mommy, you come back to Point Pleasant and go on the train with us now?"
We've got sentences
Logan's been amassing a stash of words he can read on his own. Yesterday he put a string of those words together for the first time and read the sentence "The pig is in the mud." It appeared in a brand new book he'd never before seen and therefore it was clear he had not just recited a memorized line.
I guess its safe to say that Logan is now offically reading at just 32 months old.
Strike a pose. . .
Logan has a knack for posing. Tell him you're about to take a photograph and if he's in the right mood, he does his best impression of a model at a photo shoot. It always seem to equate great photos! Here's the latest:

So what for?
One of the most amusing things with a child learning to speak is the innocent mangling of the English language with such gusto and determination. Logan speaks very well at this point but he still has a few idiosyncrasies that will soon fade away just like all the others did before them.
His latest is interchanging "for" for "so." In other words he'll say:
"I'm going to put this chair here for we can pretend to ride a train."
or one I hear often:
"You put Meggie down in her crib for we can play now."
Its pretty hard not to laugh when he does it. Instead I just parrot back at him "You want me to put her down for a nap so we can play?"
A ha!
Today at the church's first-ever meeting of the Musterseeds Playgroup (aka kids 1-5 years old) Logan made a sun complete with red glitter. As we drove home Logan was still chattering about this new group and his art project.
He said "See my sun?"
And I said "Yes, I see your sun, my son."
He was quiet for a moment.
He thought.
He thought.
He started to laugh. "I get it! sun son. That's funny mommy."
